Ruger recall...

Please note model number...

http://www.ruger.com/LCPRecall/?utm_...com%2BLCPRecal

http://www.ruger.com/LCPRecall/images/Header.jpg Ruger has recently received a small number of reports from the field indicating that LCP pistols can discharge when dropped onto a hard surface with a round in the chamber. We are firmly committed to safety and would like to retrofit all older LCP Pistols. The retrofit involves installation of an upgraded hammer mechanism at no charge to the customer.

http://www.ruger.com/LCPRecall/images/DiamondImage2.jpg

We want to remind gun users that, for maximum safety when carrying any pistol with a loaded magazine in place, the chamber should be empty, and the slide should be closed. Any gun may fire if dropped or struck.

How to determine if your pistol needs the retrofit: All LCP pistols bearing prefix 370 (that is, serial number 370-xxxxx) may be affected. Newly manufactured and retrofitted 370 prefix LCP pistols with the new hammer mechanism installed have been marked with a diamond in the flat portion of the slot just behind and below the hammer as shown to the right. Going forward, new pistols will be marked with the serial number prefix 371 (serial number 371-xxxxx). Pistols with the 371 prefix are not affected.

How to arrange to have your pistol retrofitted:
Step 1 - Contact us and provide your name, address, telephone number and LCP serial number.
To sign up for the FREE safety upgrade: Click Here to sign up immediately using the on-line form.

You may also sign up by using any of these alternative methods:
E-mail: LCPRecall@ruger.com Fax: (928) 541-8873 Phone: LCP Recall Hotline
1-800-784-3701
(available Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EDT)
Step 2 - The new parts are being built and we will retrofit LCP pistols on a first-come, first-served basis as soon as they are available. When we are ready to retrofit your pistol, we will send you a shipping label and package with instructions so you can return your pistol to us FREE of charge.
Step 3 - We will install the new hammer mechanism, plus some other functional upgrades that we added since the LCPs introduction, and return your LCP to you, all FREE of charge. When we do, we also will send you a FREE magazine with the new finger grip extension as a thank you for your patience and cooperation. We will make every effort to return your pistol within one week of receipt.

Thank you,

Sturm, Ruger & Co., In

The Ruger LCP was supposed to be a new and improved version of the problematic Keltec 380. Well, gee whiz....

Selling like hotcakes around here. Everybody's sold out. Heard one store on the phone with someone looking for one saying that there was a recall and that they had other guns that would be better for them. They weren't interested.

When I was looking for a "bed side" pistol, I wasn't looking to spend a lot of money. I bought a Ruger P95. It's heavy and clunky but it shoots very well, accurately and reliably. I wouldn't carry it, it's too big and heavy but it carries 16 rounds of 40 cal, is within reach all night and will shoot every time. Perfect for the purpose and would be a most unpleasant surprise.

Mas Ayoob likes the Ruger P-series line, especially in 45 ACP.

Re: Ruger recall and not having your gun...

I'm in the business....you can call it rimfire but you really need to address a few things before you bust on it to much.

1. Have I ever put my clothes on and said, "I really don't feel like carrying my gun today....anytime???

2. does your gun weigh more then 20 ounces?

3.. Is your gun 6.5 inches or longer? The keltec is a ton shorter and lighter. In fact it weighs half of what a normal carry gun weighs when empty, yet it's fully loaded. .380 at 6 yards will kill you just as dead as a .500...don't give me the B.S. penetration tests. If your worried, stagger the rounds fmj, hp, fmj, hp....empty your gun on a robbers ass....save the last shot for a direct headshot. Make the last round FMJ.

Here's my reply to pee shooter. True story.

My landlord said he got robbed a few weeks ago. A convience store in a good neighborhood with busy traffic. Broad daylight a couple punks ran up and put him in a headlock, put a gun to his head and said, give me your money or I'll shoot you. He said, "Shoot me"...they didn't luckily. They jumped back in their van and drove off.

Here's the kicker. His gun was 5 feet away in the car. It was too inconvient to carry that day. I've heard this story more times then I wish in the past.

If you don't strap it on everyday, than that so called rimfire .380 is the best gun you will ever have. I have tons of handguns...I never say, "I don't feel like carrying it". It fits in any front pocket, of any pants. It never sticks out, and it never pulls my pants off. Rob me, and you will be surprised beyond belief. When I go into my front pocket....you'll think I getting you my money. It will always be there.

Keltec .380....cheap reliable, and deadly at 10 yards or less with good ammo.... if your worried get good +p ammo...yes it will take occasional feeds of +p. Forget the ruger...get the keltac. It feeds all ammos, all the time. Very reliable. Take it out the first day you get it. If there are no problems after feeding a few boxes of what you'll carry the gun with.... put it in your pocket with a carry license and kill the next robber who approaches you. Surprise is more important then size.

I guess that rant is directed at me, since you qoute me at the bottom of your post? I think you did not understand my comment. Let me try to spell it out. (I did not bust on the .380)

A poster said, "Does anybody actually use Ruger semi-auto pistols?"

My response was, "Rimfire. Big time".

I specifically quoted who I was responding to. Go look at it again. I was not discussing the .380 at all, only that I shoot ruger semi-autos that use a rimfire cartridge, specifically Ruger 22/45's that use .22LR ammunition.

I hope that helps clarify my comment that you quoted. Have a great day. :s1:

Re: Ruger recall and not having your gun...

sorry...I see....I hear folks all day long busting on .380 and it get's under my skin...especially when someone is not carrying the day he gets robbed. My bad. Gun folks, and usually the ones that can hardly afford anything, are usually the ones to bust on stupid things while arguing for something they couldn't afford if they took 2 jobs at McDonald's.....rich folks just buy it and they are not the bulk of gun people......not talking about you.

Talking rimfire....had another friend get robbed at an atm....the idiot had a knife. My buddy had a NAA pee shooter. Surprised the hell out of the spear chucker when he shot at him thru his pocket. Chocked it and shot at him right next to his pee pee.

The guy didn't stand around to ask if that was a 45 or a 22. Lucky for him he missed and hit his van radiator.

No problem. I had a Colt Pocket lite in 380 that I loved. Unfortunaltley I sold it, back in the mid-90's for more immediate needs.
